FAQ

  • Is Rowley truly a *Ghost Town*?
No... Not really While the town once had upwards of 500 residents in the 1920's, and is now left with a total of 12, we like to consider Rowley a historical town rather than a ghost town - a ghost town in our opinion leads people to think that there is no one here caring for the buildings and properties which couldn't be further from the truth. The town is also mostly privately owned by remaining residents, which is good to keep in mind when exploring. There is a map on the community hall and at both approved camping locations that you can use as a guide of where your exploring is appreciated, and where the private property lies.
  • Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely! We love responsible pet owners who keep their animals on a leash at all times, and who pick up their waste and throw it into one of the many available garbage bins available. Our town has a colony of cats and some backyard chickens who appreciate not being chased by off leash dogs.
  • How many people live in Rowley?
To date there are 12 residents living in Rowley
  • Are there services/amenities in Rowley (Food, Fuel, Washrooms)?
There are no businesses that offer fuel. Other than during pizza night (Last Saturday of most months) there are no businesses that offer food or drink. There are public washrooms, but they are only available during events for now, or in Sam's Saloon during pizza nights.
  • How long can I expect to wait for my pizza?
30 pizza's can be made at a time, and they take approximately 30 minutes to cook depending on the amount of toppings on them. Being that orders being at 5:00pm, the first set of pizza's usually begin to roll out around 5:45, and then in waves from then. The pizza's are usually taken to the Saloon, or Park Stage and the names on the pizza's will be read out for collection. If you are traveling out to Rowley, for Pizza Night with children (or not, this can apply really to anyone) - it is a good idea to bring along snacks in case your pizza is ordered later in the line. During busy summer month pizza nights, some pizzas can be as late as 11pm being finished.
  • Can kids go in Sam's Saloon?
Yes! Our pizza nights are family friendly events, and kids are permitted access to the saloon.
  • What is Pizza Night?
Pizza Night is a monthly fundraiser the Rowley Community Association puts on along with their many volunteers. It is the last Saturday of almost every month throughout the entire year. The monies raised from these events helps us repair and maintain the historical buildings.
  • Okay, I'm new here....... How do I order pizza? What's the cost? What else do I need to know??
Pizza Orders begin being accepted in the hall at 5:00pm on Pizza Night. You can either get a form in the hall at the time of ordering, or grab one from inside Sam's Saloon beforehand. You'll complete your form, and take it to the volunteers at the cash desk, where you can pay via cash or debit/credit with our square reader. The cost of the pizzas are dependent on the amount of toppings you choose. A base 2 topping pizza is $15.00, with each additional topping adding $2 to the final cost. Cheese is a assumed topping already included, it doesn't add to your topping total. Example Basic 2 Topping: Pepperoni and Bacon would be $15.00 Example 3 Topping: Ham, Bacon and green pepper would be $17.00 Sam's Saloon usually has freshly popped popcorn available for free to those who would like some, and has non alcoholic drink options as well as alcoholic options. The saloon, picnic area, and hall are all covered by our licensing, but not any further so we ask that you keep any beverages you may have brought with you to camp - at your camp, and any that may have been purchased at the Saloon within the licensed area.
  • How much is a tour?
The tours, just like camping, are by donation. So whether you pay $5 a person, or $20 per family, know that every penny of your donation goes back into repairs and maintenance of the buildings you see on your tour. Tips are also appreciated for the summer students
  • Do tours need to be booked in advance?
No. Tours are offered as a first come, first serve basis. Summer students will be on location from 10-5 Thursay to Sunday.
  • When are tours available?
Tours are available; July-August Thursday to Sunday 10:00am - 5:00pm CLOSED FOR THE SEASON
  • Are fires permitted?
Yes - with a couple conditions; 1. They must be in the provided fire pits - of which we ask that you do not move so that we don't end up with spots of damaged grass. 2. You must have the ability to completely put your fire out before leaving it unattended, we can get sudden winds here and an unattended fire could very quickly get out of control. Also: You can also bring your own raised fire pit, or propane pit as long as they are not going to damage the grass underneath them.
  • Where do I leave my donation?
Donations can be left just outside the main door at the hall, in the steel drop box that says "Donations" on it. This is emptied daily and monitored.
  • Where can I camp?
Here is the map to the townsite The green areas are where camping is permitted. The green space behind the School House, and down the road heading out of town to the west where the ball diamond is located are the two locations where camping is permitted.. (The Blue Shed is in reference to the large blue shop, and not the blue wagon house by the train station) It is important to note the Private Properties throughout town, these spaces are not for the public, and are monitored.
  • How much is camping?
Camping is by donation only, so whether you pay $5.00 per night, or $20.00 for the weekend - Know that we appreciate any and all donations we receive, and that all donations go directly back into the repairs and maintenance of the townsite.
  • Can we reserve camping spots?
Unfortunately no, all camping is first come first serve. With that said, we've never been so full to the point of people being turned away, but we do run out of fire pits. If this happens we ask that you do not utilize your own fire ring as they damage the grass, propane fire pits or raised fire pits are permitted. **ALL FIRES MUST BE FULLY EXTINGUISHED BEFORE LEAVING**
  • Can we bring our own fire rings?
We do run out of fire pits. If this happens we ask that you do not utilize your own fire ring as they damage the grass, propane fire pits or raised fire pits are permitted. **ALL FIRES MUST BE FULLY EXTINGUISHED BEFORE LEAVING**
  • How can I help?
